In a world of accelerating change and increasing complexity, technical knowledge alone is no longer sufficient. As highlighted during a recent leadership event hosted by the Dutch Institute of Chartered Accountants (NBA) and NEST Accountants Academy, the future of corporate success lies in a more holistic approach\u2014one rooted in principles, inclusion, and purpose.

Former Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende opened this leadership event by challenging attendees to lead not from ego, but from a foundation of shared values. His call to align business objectives with societal impact resonated strongly, especially in an age where stakeholders increasingly demand transparency and accountability.

The theme of \u201cclaiming your space\u201d<\/em> encouraged professionals to reflect on how they show up at work\u2014not just as experts, but as collaborators, mentors, and purpose-driven individuals. As speaker Sofie Vanlerberghe explained through her “growth model”, leadership today requires a fine balance between taking initiative and creating room for others to grow.

Equally compelling was the discussion on generational diversity led by organizational psychologist Aart Bontekoning. Different generations bring different strengths. Instead of seeing generational gaps as barriers, modern firms should treat them as opportunities\u2014to learn, to evolve, and to co-create inclusive, adaptive organizations.

The most poignant takeaway? Everyone, regardless of position or age, has a right to speak, contribute, and lead. By fostering environments where people can connect across disciplines and generations, we create workplaces not just built for performance\u2014but for long-term, human-centered progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
