Sustainability, a valuable concept today

15/07/2024

Given the accelerated social, environmental, political, and economic changes, the term “sustainability” has gained relevance and popularity in our society. While it is a broad concept that embraces multiple terms and should not be confused with the term “sustainable”, as both have different characteristics that separates them.

“Sustainable” refers to the responsible use of current resources without compromising future resources. In contrast, “sustainability” seeks a balance between the economy, society, and business ecosystems with the aim of ensuring the rational use of resources, reducing social inequalities (gender gaps, quality of life, access to education, among others), and continuing to strive for fair development.

The best way to understand sustainability and its importance is through the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) approved by the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda. These goals present a global vision aimed to fight inequalities in our societies and mitigate environmental degradation, compelling individuals, organizations, and society itself to engage in building a prosperous and fair world as active participants.

Therefore, we must consider that the actions we undertake today will have repercussions tomorrow. Regarding the business sector, this call to action must be addressed urgently by implementing national and international sustainability regulations and promoting eco-friendly activities that positively impact the world. As companies, it is our responsibility to assess our value chains, evaluate risks, plan strategies, identify opportunities, and collaborate with stakeholders to focus our efforts in achieving the 2030 Agenda.

At Auren, we share this mission and work under regulatory standards to strengthen our internal processes and contribute to create a better world. Our commitment transcends, we strive to support our clients by adopting responsible practices, guiding them to understand, implement, and execute actions with sustainable impact.
